We were looking for a diner for dinner. The hotel suggested this one down the street. Turns out it was more dive than diner but we had a tasty and good meal. I had a roast beef sandwich and Mrs Eva had a breakfast. Their gumbo was very good. The place is old, lots of locals, a hang-out for old men, a little grungy, but an OK neighborhood diner. Service was a little iffy, but they did get us taken care of.

Biscuits & Gravy was cheap & tasty. It was late, and I was drunk, but it was good. Haha. :)

KD's is one of those places that I've been going to for years and even though I've moved away from my hometown, I still make it a point to return every time I come back. Let me save you some trouble by letting you know that everything on the menu is good. I've had a little bit of it all and I've never been let down. Last time in I had a delightful reunion with an old friend and the same great food I've come to expect. A cup of gumbo (dark roux? yes, ma'am) and a 1/2 of a turkey po-boy. The po-boys are great because they're on real French bread (you know the kind--crusty and soft all at the same time). I daydreamed about this sandwich for weeks before going home. You laugh, but Colorado just doesn't know a good sandwich! If you go at any peak time, there probably won't be an empty seat. It's a tiny little diner, and it's usually packed. I'm not opposed to waiting, though, if that's the kind of food I'm waiting on. Lake Charles isn't full of great diners, and KD's is worth the wait.

We stopped here for breakfast on 10/18/14 based on Yelp reviews. The place was closed and there was a dumpster in the parking lot. It looked like either major renovations or a permanent closure.

Great prices and great food. This is defiantly a place to come back too again and again.

Love the food here and the prices they come with! PACKED at night and mornings till lunch! This is a diner that has that hipster vibe.

Small, cozy space means there's waiting sometimes. But all in all, it's a good eat. The selection is nice, they offer a little bit of everything. Best prices in LC. Along with Darrel's down the road, I fully expect this place to end up on the Travel channel or Food Network one day. Open 24 hours. Service is great, always friendly staff. This is a must-stop when you're in Lake Charles. Try the hash-browns for breakfast, or the Cajun Roast Beef for lunch.

Authentic Cajun chicken and sausage gumbo. I used to work with many folks in Louisiana and have eaten a lot of home cooking. This is the real deal. The service was quick and friendly. Very laid back diner atmosphere. Prices are also very good.

Price: 16.88+tip for 2. I had the western omelette but ordered it without the bell peppers, it was amazing! And probably the best biscuit ever! (I love biscuits with a passion. Service: they were super attentive and nice. Very mindful and accommodating of my food allergies. Overall an awesome diner, cute, affordable and delicious

Excellent hash browns with eggs on top. Quick service and you can watch them cook your food if you sit in the right place.

Filthiest restroom I have ever seen! Cleaning is not a priority. So if you believe a dirty restroom equates to a dirty kitchen this is not the place to go!!!

  • Jen L.

You really should be drunk to have to eat unseasoned food. Who could make eggs even more boring.

The wife and I stopped here for breakfast after doing some gambling at the local casinos. The previous comments about the biscuits are spot on... They are delicious. The place is very crowded & seemed a bit short staffed. However the wait staff were very attentive, food was quite delicious and very inexpensive.

It's ok. If you are from a decent size town, it will be smaller than you expect. I sat at the counter area and the male slim cutie with the blond hair in a ponytail decided he would take 4 folks order(including mine) without writing a single thing down.(2/28/15 1235AM). He came back to clarify what hot tea I ordered even though I already told him. Forgot the guy next to me's bacon and cheese for a burger and gave me toast instead of the biscuit I ordered. Then he came back yet again to verify my order. WRITE IT DOWN!!! How annoying. Food was average. I think it's the only place in town besides IHOP and Waffle House open late nite so go ahead and check it out. Just insist that the waiter write down your order. Dang. It's not that tough

Looking for a great burger this place has it! Laid back atmosphere and friendly workers. I also give the gumbo 2 thumbs up.

What a great little local diner! So glad we opted for breakfast here over one of the chain restaurants in town. The dining area of the restaurant is fairly small, so we had to wait a couple of minutes for a table to open up once we arrived (but hey, quality is worth the wait, right?) Once seated, I was very impressed with the prices on their menu--this is small town dining at its finest, without inflated prices or overly detailed descriptions of menu items. Our standard breakfasts of eggs, grits, bacon, etc really hit the spot, in my opinion. The highlight of breakfast, however, was talking to the gentlemen at the table beside us. They were locals and had tons of recommendations on what to do in town, where to eat, alternatives to the casino, etc, etc. Such a wealth of knowledge and great conversation! I wouldn't have traded that time for a king's breakfast of caviar omelettes and champagne. I loved the environment here, and the good food was icing on the cake. Stop in for a spell next time you're there, would ya?

Simple but good down home cooking. We had breakfast here since every place was closed on Thanksgiving day.The locals were very friendly and made you feel welcome. My breakfast was extremely good something called the shredder if not mistsken hash potatoes covered with eggs, cheese, and jalapeños. Very large portions I couldnt finish had to take a to go box.

Normally I love KDs. I've never had a problem with service and we love the food. However, last time we went there was a black hair in my husband's hash browns. I informed the waiter, and told him that we weren't upset but obviously we would not be eating the hash browns. He did profusely apologize, but I was surprised that we were still charged for them. Most restaurants would comp a meal with such an obvious error (not to mention health code violation). That caused us to notice a cook with a full beard working that night, which is usually not allowed. I'm sure we will go back, but we'll be more careful in inspecting our food.

We stopped by this small restaurant on our way to Texas. I was pleasantly surprised by their food. Their shrimp poboy was delicious. I would definitely go back if I was in the area.

Great food, really enjoyed the KD's special poboy. Service was amazing, fast and friendly

It's a messy little 24 hour diner, but the food is fantastic. Loaded hash browns like the KD's southern chicken on hash or the Rafferty are my personal favorites, but they serve all kinds of breakfast options and typical American lunch options. I've grown very fond of it over the years, and will definitely stop by every time I'm in Lake Charles.

Skip the chains, this is where you want hangover breakfast. Great service, good food, not overly expensive. Usually pretty packed, but there's parking around back, and even if you have to wait a little bit it's worth it.

  • Jeremy W.

This may be the most polarizing place in Lake Charles, but I'm firmly on the side of people who love it (probably for the same reasons that others hate it). The place is cramped and greasy, the clientele is drunk and overly conversational, and the wait times are unpredictable. The hygiene is suspect and the decor is tacky. I wouldn't have it any other way. The food and staff will keep me coming back forever.

It's not fair to try a new place when you can't taste anything. I have a cold so I opted for an omelette and grits. Something you can't mess up. It was OK but since I can't taste anything but the Tabasco I have to rely on my spouse. He had ham steak eggs and hash browns which he proclaimed perfect. Service was very good

KD's is awesome and just became one of my favorite late night breakfast spots ever. The food is excellent. The prices are excellent. The service is what? You guessed it... Excellent. The only negatives are the small parking lot and the smaller dining area, the wait was long and everyone was packed in like sardines next to the door, but it was well worth the wait. I haven't come close to exploring the menu but the dishes we had were top notch and cheap, and I hear thats the case for everything on the menu. A great check-in all around.

It's a 24 hour diner! You'll find people from all walks of life here in every shape imaginable. If you go I suggest you go late at night or early in the morning (When there are usually less people) I usually order to go because I'm eating alone but it's a good place to go for late night studying when you're trying to keep yourself out of bed. I usually get either the hungry mans breakfast, the western omelet, the rafordy (hashbrowns with ham roast beef and eggs I recommend sunny side), the gumbo, or the 6oz sirloin dinner which comes with a plain jane (baked potato) and a salad! It's really all good and it's cheap. Great for college kids on a limited budget. If you order to go, make sure you are timely about your pick up because if you aren't, they will add your phone number to a list of numbers they don't take orders from.

Me and my husband were pretty hungry one night after a trip to the movies and KDs was conveniently opened and right next to the theater. We sat down and had to wait probably 20 minutes until we got waited on. I ordered the quesadillas which were pretty good and filling, but they did take a bit long to arrive. Probably would go again if there was no other choice, but it's not completely terrible.

My boyfriend was all excited that he found a diner, he loves them! Very disappointed, has the diner feel but the food was mediocre at best. Nothing special about it, they don't even serve corned beef hash for breakfast. We were there at around 2PM on a sunday and there were some people in there that looked a hot mess, drinking and such, may have been a woman looking for a sale......if you know what I mean. Service wasn't very good, had to ask another waitress to refill our drinks, we waited and waited for the waitress who initially served us. We probably won't go back.

My pancake was burned. My BF's meal included still frozen fries. And while waiting for our check a cockroach ran across the table.

KD's Diner is the first cajun/creole food I have ever had in the state of Louisiana. Right away, I can tell you that it was a great introduction to the local cusine. We stopped in here in the morning heading towards Baton Rogue. and were hungry for breakfast. I ordered a bowl of gumbo and a piece of cornbread. Absolutely delicious! The place feels like a southern diner, the service is great, and the food is delcious! If I ever make it back to Lake Charles, I'll make sure to stop by again!

Food was ok but the service was not so great. Had to ask for refills almost every time we needed them. The diner was extremely dirty and we ate as fast as possible in order to get out of this place. Will NOT go back.

*shrug* The decor was good, place was clean. Comfortable, had a few regulars at the bar sitting and talking. Wait staff was cheerful, observant, kept the drinks filled. Food: Me - Grilled chicken salad. Fresh, chicken was tender but the flavors just blended all together. Large serving, was definitely full when I left. Sweet Tea to drink, had a nasty city water aftertaste. $6.89 Brian - Hashbrown Omelet, at least 4 eggs worth, took up half the plate. Hashbrowns needed a little more cooking, they were sorta soggy. The bottom of the plate was covered in grease or butter, whatever they were cooked with. Took home leftovers. $7.69 Diane - 6 oz Sirloin Entree, hashbrowns and a side of salad. First time in a long time I have seen a Medium well steak done perfectly to order. Unfortunately it was a little bland. Hashbrowns ordered extra crunchy, little overcooked and lost their softness inside. $9.49

Great food and awesome service I mean it is not some crazy nice steak house but let's not compare apples to penguins here. You get the most food for your money and would recommend to anyone. 5 of 5 stars

The best thing this place is KD's Special poboy (with grilled jalapenos). It's probably the only thing about Lake Charles I miss.

I like that it's open 24hrs. It's a great, cozy little place to have a midnight study-n-snack meet with your friends. It USED to have the best valued meals on my list, until they increased their prices. I was mighty surprised when my usual $6 meal suddenly cost $9. It doesn't seem like much, but on a college budget, $3 is a lot of money. Their blackened shrimp is pretty good, and you used to get a whole lot of it before their prices increased. Now it's a much smaller serving. My boyfriend likes their Grilled Cheese, but if I'm gonna spend $2-3 on some bread and a slice of kraft cheese, I might as well stay home...

This is a great little home town diner. The best thing about it is it almost never closes. Lake Charles is not what you would call, a city that never sleeps so, if your out late at night or early morning this place is your best bet.
